My name is Randy Brown. I've been training/teaching Tai Chi for over 10 years. I also hold a 6th degree Black Belt and Master Instructor title in Praying Mantis Kung Fu, and a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I am extremely passionate about martial arts and love to share my knowledge with others so they may reap the benefits to their lives, that I have received in mine.
After learning Tai Chi, I noticed the difficulties many people had in learning it. I became obsessed with finding easier ways to teach it. I recognized that as a student of Tai Chi, we want to spend our time gaining the benefits from practicing it, rather than trying to remember choreography or deal with coordination...

This lesson focuses on the movements 'Opening Form' and 'Ward-Off', the first 2 postures of the Yang Style Tai Chi Long Form. Each movement of the form is broken down into individual lessons to assist you in learning Tai Chi in an easy manner.

Tai Chi - Lesson 2 - Grasp Sparrow Tail
In Lesson 2 of Master Brown's Tai Chi series we focus on the popular movement 'Grasp Sparrow Tail'. This Tai Chi Posture is one of the most important in Tai Chi and will be repeated throughout the Yang Style Tai Chi Long Form. It is comprised of 4 smaller motions - Ward-Off, Roll Back, Press, and Push.
Legend has it that Yang Lu Chan (the founder of Yang style Tai Chi) used this move to defeat many opponents. Then name derives from a fable about a Sparrow landing on Yang Lu Chan's arm and each time the bird would try to take off, Yang Lu Chan was so sensitive to the birds movement that he emptied his arm and the bird could not push off to fly away.

Tai Chi - Lesson 3 - Single Whip
This lesson focuses on the movement 'Single Whip'. This Tai Chi Posture is also repeated many times throughout the Yang Style Tai Chi Long Form. It is comprised of hooking hand which resembles the hand holding a whip before it is cracked. This lesson shows a close-up of the hands, and footwork to assist you in learning.
Single Whip name comes from the posture looking like someone about to crack a whip with one hand.

This lesson focuses on the movement 'Raise Hands'. This Tai Chi Posture follows Single Whip and is also repeated many times in the Yang Style Tai Chi Long Form. This lesson shows Raise Hands being performed and includes a close-up of the hands and footwork to assist you in learning.

Tai Chi - Lesson 5 - White Crane Spreads Wings
This lesson focuses on the movement 'White Crane Spreads Wings'. This Tai Chi Posture resembles a Crane standing on one leg in the water, with wings spread wide. A metaphor for a Crane spreading it's wings to cool off.

Tai Chi - Lesson 6 - Brush Knee
This lesson focuses on the movement 'Brush Knee Twist Step'. This Tai Chi Posture is repeated throughout the Yang Style Tai Chi Long Form in combination with other postures. It is practiced in groups of 3 and is comprised of a twisting step and the use of 'Push', one of the primary 13 principles of Tai Chi.
This lesson shows Brush Knee Twist Step, as well as a close-up of the hands, and footwork to assist you in learning. It also contains ancillary exercises to assist you in the complexities of this posture.

Tai Chi - Lesson 7 - Strum the Lute
Lesson 7 of Master Brown's Tai Chi series focuses on the movement 'Strum the Lute'. This Tai Chi Posture is used in conjunction with Brush Knee Twist Step in the Yang Style Tai Chi Long Form section 1. Strum the Lute is a metaphor for holding a lute (pipa) in the arms. A lute is like a small guitar.

This lesson focuses on the movement 'Deflect, Parry, Punch'. This Tai Chi Posture uses a variation of Ward-Off showing a fist instead of an open hand. The footwork uses a cross circle step.
