Tragedy of the Commons
Learn about the Tragedy of the Commons with iMinds insightful audio knowledge series.
The Tragedy of the Commons is a situation in which a jointly-owned resource is overused or destroyed because each person takes more than they would if the resource was privately owned. With each individual acting independently, the combined pressure on the resource exceeds what is in the interests of the community as a whole. The term was coined in 1967 by Garrett Hardin, a biologist from the University of California, in a famous article in the journal Science.
According to Hardin, there are some kinds of problems which society cannot resolve through technology, but which instead require a wholesale change in morality and behavior - what we might now call a cultural shift.

Have you ever witnessed 200 dancers in gold-lamé trousers invade a Los Angeles Department store? Or maybe 300 nude cyclists riding down Paris' Champs-Elysees? Or perhaps you've received a text message inviting you to an impromptu 500 person pillow fight in London's Piccadilly Circus? If you answered yes to any of the above, chances are you've unwittingly been exposed to the contemporary but curious cultural phenomenon of the Flash Mob.
The first ever Flash Mob occurred, or rather was planned to occur at 7:24pm on the evening of Tuesday June 3, 2003. An anonymous figure “Bill” sent an email to 50 friends giving detailed instructions, he encouraged them to forward the email to any friends who might be interested.

Creationism
Learn about the theory of Creationism with iMinds insightful audio knowledge series.
Creationism is the name given to the belief that God created the universe and everything in it, including life. In the West, the word is usually associated with the account of creation given in the book of Genesis in the Christian and Jewish bibles, but it can apply equally to the foundation stories of other religions, such as Islam and Hinduism. There are various forms of creationism, each associated with a different interpretation of scripture and with different views about its impact on current scientific thinking. The book of Genesis says that “in the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth”, and that the whole world was created in six days.

Battle of Waterloo
Learn about the Battle of Waterloo with iMinds insightful audio knowledge series.
The Battle of Waterloo was fought on 18th June 1815 between Napoleon’s French Army and the British, Dutch, Belgian and German forces commanded by the Duke of Wellington. It is one of the most famous battles in the world and one of the most decisive events in history.
Waterloo marked the endpoint of an extremely turbulent period. In 1789, the French Revolution destroyed the old order of king and church, in the name of Liberty, Fraternity and Equality. King Louis XVI was executed and Europe’s monarchs, horrified at what the Revolution might mean for them, invaded France. A young army commander, Napoleon Bonaparte, seemed the only one capable of defending France.

Evolution
Learn about the theory of Evolution with iMindsJNR audio learning series for younger minds.
Evolution is a theory which explains how life on Earth developed. At its heart, it proposes that all species, including human beings, are formed by way of a gradual process of mutation from other species. According to this theory, humans are related to gorillas and reptiles because they share common ancestors. They are like distant cousins with the same grandparents. The important difference is that millions of generations separate them! Amazingly, evolutionary theory even suggests that we share a common ancestor with all organisms on earth.

Learn about the history of The Bubonic Plague with iMinds insightful audio knowledge series.
Bubonic plague is widely regarded as being responsible for two of the most infamous plagues in recorded history - the Black Death in the mid-fourteenth century and the great plague of London in 1665.
The causative organism of modern-day plague was discovered independently in 1894 by two bacteriologists: the Swiss born Dr. Alexandre Yersin and Dr. Shibasaburo Kitasato from Japan. Both were conducting research in Hong Kong during the third plague pandemic then occurring in Asia. Kitasato was working with the backing of the British authorities and had access to autopsies of plague victims at Kennedy Town Hospital.

Great Fire of London
Learn about the Great Fire of London with iMinds insightful audio knowledge series.
Before the Great Fire, the City of London was filled with crowded, timber-framed buildings with thin, plaster walls. Candles, rushlights, coals and fireplaces were omnipresent, and the risk of fire was paramount.
The Great Fire of London is believed to have been started by the baker Thomas Farrynger shortly after midnight on Sunday, 2 September 1666, in his shop on Pudding Lane, just East of London Bridge. Within a few hours, the fire had spread rapidly, consuming Pudding Lane, Star Inn at Fish Street Hill and also part of Thames Street. For the next four days the fire raged, mercilessly consuming everything in its wake. Londoners were beside themselves trying to extinguish it.

UFOs Lesson
Learn about UFOs with iMinds insightful audio knowledge series.
On 25 June 1947, Kenneth Arnold, a United States Forest Service employee and private pilot, witnessed nine Unidentified Flying Objects in the sky near Mount Rainier, Washington. This incident was to mark the beginning of a rapid increase in public interest in UFOs. Arnold, who at the time was searching for a downed transport plane, originally thought the objects he saw were jets. However, on closer inspection, he realised the objects had no tails and all but one looked like flat disks. He later described the objects as being similar to saucers skimming across the surface of the water. This description was repeated by a journalist when reporting the story, and this is how the term "Flying Saucer" was coined.

Stonehenge
Learn the history of Stonehenge with iMinds insightful audio knowledge series.
Five thousand years ago, at the same time as the pyramids were being constructed in Egypt, another monolithic structure was being built in the English county now known as Wiltshire. This structure, a complex series of earthworks and towering standing stones, is one of Europe's most famous prehistorical sites. But while we know quite a lot about who built the pyramids, and how and why they were constructed, we know very little about Stonehenge. Was it an astronomical observatory? A place of magic and ritual? A burial ground? A place of healing? The debate still rages.
