I have built one computer in the past (witin 2 years) with much assistance from a computer builder friend. Though I tried to help, I always seemed to have gotten in the way. This series of videos is very helpful. Though you can go to YouTube and search forever to find computer building help, these videos are clear and most impotently UP TO DATE! I would like to see some more information about compatibilities. For instance, I have a relatively new IDE HD but bought a brand new SATA HD, for this new build. It would be informative to know how both drives can be connected in the same system.

It would also be nice to understand how to erase and re format a HD.

All in all this is great.

  Overview:

  The video card is responsible for creating all that you see on your computer monitor. Up until about 4 years ago, video cards were advancing in the acceleration and quality of 2 dimensional images. Since that time, video cards have reached a point where they are all equal in their ability to show 2D images and no further acceleration is possible.

  Video card development now focuses on 3 dimensional acceleration and 3D image quality, 3D games and 3D modeling software, for instance.

  Direct X is the system that 3D acceleration is based on. The latest version, DirectX 10.1, which only comes with Windows Vista, provides the best image quality and fastest 3D graphics available. DirectX 9 is supported by the lower end video cards in Windows XP. For the best 3D performance, look for DirectX 10.1 support in your video card.

  The amount of memory a video card has plays a big role in the speed and quality of 3D graphics. Look for a card with at least 512 MB of memory.

• 2012 Build Your Own PC Components: Processor CPU

  Overview
  In this lesson, we'll cover both Intel and AMD CPU Processors, what features and specs to look for when shopping, and how much you can expect to pay.   The processor or CPU is the brains of the computer and does the majority of the PC’s work. There are currently 2 major CPU makers, Intel and AMD. Intel has three families of processor, Celeron at the low end, Pentium in the middle and at the high end, the latest processor family, called Core. AMD also has three product families, Sempron at the low end, Athlon in the middle and Phenom at the top.

  CPU's connect to the motherboard through the cpu socket. Choose socket LGA 775, also called socket T for Intel and socket AM2, or AM2+ for AMD. Intel introduced a new socket type in November of 2008 called LGA1366, or Socket B. This new socket supports the new Core i7 CPU from Intel. AMD will introduce its new CPU socket, the socket AM3 in early 2009. Socket AM3 will support AMDs new CPU family that will compete with Intels Core i7 CPU.
