This is a great way for me to look up what's going on with companies I might be interested in investing in sometime in the future. I'm still looking for exactly where I want to be but this is a great way for people who don't know where to start.

Factiva is APL's largest periodical database. It includes newspapers from all over the U.S. and the world. Users can search nearly 11,000 publications in 22 languages, Factiva also includes news pages and detailed company reports. In this video, we will browse current news pages, find a company report, and search for an article in a specific newspaper.

On the database homepage, scroll down to the most popular databases and select “Factiva.” Select “Factiva” again. If you are not at a library location, enter your library card number.

Select the “News Pages” at the top of the page. Scroll down to USAToday. From the drop-down menus, let’s select “sports” for yesterday’s date. The list shows yesterday’s sports headlines in USAToday. Now let’s “search the newsstand”. Scroll to the top of the page and type “cycling” in the search box. Click “Run Search.” Factiva displays articles about cycling published in the last 14 days.

To find a company report click on “Companies/Markets” on the menu bar. Click on “company” on the white menu bar. Make sure “company name” is selected. Type “Kodak” in the search box and click search. Select Eastman Kodak from the list. A snapshot of the company is displayed including contact information, stock activity, and latest news. The menu on the left links to more detailed news, financial reports, and the build-a-report feature.
