When it is necessary that a patch be placed over a wall stud, generally the best patch to use is a pumpkin patch; we call this repair “pumpkin patch over a wall stud.” This patch will be made in the same way as a pumpkin patch, except a long indent will be carved out of the back of the patch being placed into the wall where the wall stud is located.

The pumpkin patch is slightly recessed into the wall and is even with the wall once it is mudded. This is an ideal patch for visible areas of a home or office.
