This lesson is part of the following series:

Baby Sign Language: Everything You Need (11 lessons, $15.84)
Baby Sign Language Basics (6 lessons, $9.90)

It is a really great thing to teach your baby the American Sign Language (ASL) alphabet. Babies and children tend to pick up sign language faster because of the visual letters that go along with the verbal letters. During the one minute preview you will see a 17-month-old baby singing and trying to sign the alphabet. Watch her hands as she tries to sign the letters. You will also see the same girl at age two, learning how to sign her letters. Her letters are much clearer now. She is also able to identify written letters because of her early exposure to both the sound and 'feel' of the letters. We take language in as a sound on the left side of our brains and we take sign language in as an image on the right side of our brains. This gives the child two places to recall the one word or letter. That is why it is so great to teach your child baby sign language using the ASL alphabet!

Learn how to sign the American Sign Language (ASL) manual alphabet. In this lesson we will go through step-by-step instruction on how to sign each letter of the manual alphabet. I will give you easy memory hints to remember the letters. We will go through the alphabet slowly, together, in order for you to have the maximum amount of practice signing each letter. You will learn the manual alphabet in a fast and easy way. I hope you enjoy the lesson!

I look forward to practicing this with my 17 month old grandson. He's late with speaking but has picked this up rapidly.

For some reason I've become dyslexic in my old age with the alphabet signing (Same thing occurs in my aerobics classes)so I have a mirror in place to avoid the initial frustration until the reflex takes over.

Thank you so much

Easier to Remember

I learned the alphabet a long time ago from a friend, but it was really hard for me to remember some letters because they didn't seem to correspond with how the letter looks. Laura gives great hints to help you remember each letter and ways to visualize it so it makes more sense. The practice you get in the lesson is great for learning it quickly and still remembering it later too.

I tried to learn the ASL alphabet with a book, but it was difficult to remember and to be sure I was doing it right, but Laura is a really good teacher... I love her technique it makes me remember, and I learn the entire alphabet in the first time I watched the video. I strongly recommend this video!

Easy to follow. Great lesson!

This video is very informative and easy to follow. It is sometimes difficult to interpret a sign when read from a book so seeing how the signs are actually done is way easier. Laura's tips are really helpful whether learning for your own use or to teach a child. I will certainly be forwarding this on to friends who wish to teach their children to sign.

ABC...it's as easy as 1,2,3!

This lesson is fantastic! Using Laura's tricks made remembering each letter so easy. I had tried to learn the alphabet by using a book, and never quite figured out the correct way to do them.

This video used a step-by-step system that enabled me to learn some tools on how to shape my hand the correct way to ensure that I am signing each letter correctly.

By the end of the video, I was able to sign almost every single letter along with Laura. Incredible!!

I look forward to more instructional videos by Laura. Thank you!

Organized and Easy to Follow

The video was very easy to follow and well organized. As I went along doing the alphabet, the illustrations and explanation of what the letters looked like made it very easy to learn the alphabet. Upon finishing the lesson, I could sign all the letters without any difficulty.
The captions at the beginning of each part of the lesson also prepared me for what to look for in the next session. This video gives an excellent grounding in ASL alphabet and it would be easy to continue to expand into words and phrases. It is very obvious that Laura's understand of different learning technics plays an important part in how learning takes place.

Practice, practice, practice!

Having never signed before I was a bit apprehensive, but Laura was quick to make me feel comfortable that I would get it. I liked that she included anecdotes about why signs look the way they do, and how easy it could be to confuse one letter with another - which I won't do now! Great tutorial that I look forward to practising (and practising...). Thanks!

Methodical and Organized

Laura is methodical as she walks you through the alphabet step by step and has you repeat it to ensure you learn through practice. She connects the letters to how you would print them as adults which makes it easier to remember. The video is organized with sections that has you know what is coming up next. She has an easy teaching style that creates the interest to want to learn more and to work along with her. She is willing to learn from others to make her product better for everyone.

Very cool

This lesson may seem a little repetitive at first, since you spend time siging different letters more than once. I found it suprisingly effective, though. By the time I went through the lesson once I could remember about 80% of the letters, which I thought was remarkable since I'd only seen a couple of them before.

The learning style of the video is very effective and the hints provided made sense to me. When we went through the letters the first few times they seemed to blur together to me, so I was surprised by the speed and ease of my progress. Thanks!
